Northwest Africa 15761 (NWA 15761) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 May Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Jason Whitcomb purchased a single stone from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Igneous rock with granoblastic texture and grain size 400 µm. Main minerals are exsolved pyroxene and plagioclase. Accessory minerals: exsolved Fe,Ti oxides, rare Fe metal. A 4 mm clast with subopthitic texture and grain size 1.5 mm, dark in optical reflected light, is present. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs61.3±0.6Wo7.5±0.4, FeO/MnO 32.8±1.6 (n=4). Ca-pyroxene exsolution Fs34.2Wo38.7, FeO/MnO 35.3 (n=1). Plagioclase An91.1±1.33Ab8.6±1.2Or0.4±0.1 (n=3). Pyroxene in subopthic clast Fs63.8Wo5.0, FeO/MnO 37.1 (n=1).
