Writeup from MB 112:
Northwest Africa 15786 (NWA 15786) Mali Purchased: 2023 Jan Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3) History: Found in Mali and purchased by Preston Allen in January 2023 from a dealer in Warren, Ohio, who had acquired the stone from a Saharawi source. Petrography: A. Irving, UWS, and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Separated well-formed, magnetite-bearing, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1030±360 µm, N = 23) are set in a relatively fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%) containing stained Cr-magnetite, intermediate plagioclase (andesine to labradorite), troilite, pentlandite, chlorapatite and minor secondary calcite. Several extensively recrystallized, very fine grained CAI containing diopside and plagioclase are present in the studied thin section. Geochemistry: Forsterite core (Fa0.6), olivine (Fa30.7±2.6, PMD 5.1%, range Fa24.4-32.2, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs24.2±2.0Wo0.7±0.1, range Fs21.1-25.5Wo0.6-0.8, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs5.8±4.3Wo36.6±2.5, range Fs1.5-10.05Wo39.5-35.1, N = 3), augite (Fs11.2±1.8Wo49.1±0.8, range Fs8.3-13.7Wo47.3-49.7, N = 7), Al-diopside (Fs3.3Wo51.1, Al2O3 7.0 wt.%), plagioclase (An23.6-52.9Or3.3-1.0, N = 5), magnetite (Cr2O3 2.9-3.9 wt.%, N = 8). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK3). Specimens: 51.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. P. Allen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
