Northwest Africa 15789 (NWA 15789)

Mali

Purchased: 2023 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4)

History: Found in Mali and purchased by Preston Allen in January 2023 from a dealer in Warren, Ohio, who had acquired the stone from a Saharawi source.

Petrography: A. Irving, UWS, and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a relatively coarse grained matrix containing stained kamacite, taenite, troilite and chromite, but no plagioclase.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.9±1.3, range Fa22.0-26.2, N = 13), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs18.4±0.6Wo0.4±0.1, range Fs1.5-21.7Wo0.2-0.7, N = 11).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4).

Specimens: 46.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. P. Allen.
