Northwest Africa 15798 (NWA 15798) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: Jan 2023 Classification: Ureilite History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania in January, 2023. Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a protogranular texture of up to 3 mm sized olivine and pigeonite grains both showing characteristic reduced rims associated with fine-grained often altered FeNi-metal. The meteorite contains graphite and iron oxide veins decorating grain boundaries. Geochemistry: reduced rims in olivine: Fa3.3-5.0; olivine contains 0.56±0.14 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.30±0.01 wt% CaO; reduced rims in pyroxene: Fs9.2-15.6Wo4.3-8.9; pigeonite contains 1.12±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 1.32±0.07 wt% Al2O3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
