Northwest Africa 14956 (NWA 14956) Morocco Purchased: 2021 Dec Classification: Iron meteorite (IAB complex) History: Purchased by Fabien Kuntz from a Moroccan dealer in December 2021. Physical characteristics: The single, disc-shaped mass is approximately 6 × 7 × 3 cm, and has a red-brown surface. Petrography: (C. Herd, UAb) Photos of a polished and etched surface reveal a texture consisting of equant to elongate kamacite crystals, with long dimensions parallel to the long dimensions of the disc-shaped mass. No inclusions are apparent. Alteration extends along some grain boundaries into the interior. Geochemistry: ICP-MS data, using sample of North Chile (Filomena) as standard (C. Herd, P. Hill, and S. DuFrane UAb): Ni = 6.2, Co = 0.451 (both wt%); Ir = 2.0, Ga = 67, Ge = 221, Pt = 15.4, Cu = 182 (all μg/g). Classification: (C. Herd, UAb): IAB Complex iron. Specimens: Type specimen of 31.3 g at UAb. Main mass with Fabien Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
