Northwest Africa 15735 (NWA 15735)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: Shun-Chung Yang Mark Lyon (806, 201, 50 g) and (312 and 86 g) purchased samples from a dealer in fall of 2022.

Physical characteristics: Samples are single crystals or unbrecciated aggregates of cm-sized green crystals that appear identical to those of the Tatahouine meteorite. One sample shows orientation with a regmaglypted fusion-crusted surface and rollover lip covering approximately 60% of the stone.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Samples are composed of single crystals and unbrecciated aggregates showing weak undulatory extinction and fractures, some of which are filled with FeS. Additional minerals are: a silicai polymorph, troilite and chromite.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) low Ca-pyroxene (Fs24.2±0.2W2.8±0.0, Fe/Mn=28.4±0.9 n=18).

Classification: HED achondrite (diogenite) Based on texture and mineral composition, sample is a diogenite. Presence of a well-defined fusion crust, undulatory extinction (17 separate crystals) and Wo contents (Barrat et al., 1999) are characteristics that make this make this sample distinct from Tatahouine.

Specimens: Mark Lyon and Shun-Chung Yang (S-R meteorites) holds the main masses. 3 polished thin sections and 20 fragments weighing 25.23g are on deposit at App.
