Writeup |
Writeup from MB 112:
Northwest Africa 15766 (NWA 15766) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6, melt breccia) Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Ordinary chondrite melt breccia, consisting of mm- to cm-sized chondritic lithic clasts, embedded in a dark crystallized melt. The chondritic clasts are strongly recrystallized; secondary plagioclase grains mostly >50 µm. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: The mean olivine composition in clasts is Fa30.7±0.4 (Fa30.2-31.5; n=10). The mean low-Ca pyroxene composition in clasts is Fs24.5±0.4 Wo2.0±0.2 (Fs24.2-25.3 Wo1.7-2.4; n=8) with a mean CaO concentration of 1.0±0.1 (0.9-1.2) wt%. Classification: LL chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type based on the equilibrated state of olivine and pyroxene, and large grain size of secondary plagioclase. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
