Ashchikol’ 53°08’56.29"N, 68°47’12.78"E Kokchetav, Kazakhstan Find: 1987 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5) History: The meteorite was found by chance in the summer of 1987 by geologist Aleksandr Shershakov from Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan. During field work, he spotted an unusual 2.5 kg stone 300 m away from a small lake called Ashchikol, 15 km south-west of Elenovka village in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan. Physical characteristics: A single brown stone with remnants of fusion crust. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Weathered ordinary chondrite. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5) Specimens: Main mass with Aleksandr Shershakov, type speciment at CEREGE. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
