Shokay 50°28.541’N, 72°55.434’E Karaganda, Kazakhstan Find, doubtful fall: 2011 Sep 11 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) History: On Sept. 11, 2011, Valery Miller from Temirtau, Kazakhstan found an individual stony meteorite of 17.5 kg near the village Shokay in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan. He had been on the lookout for meteorites for many years: his grandfather said he witnessed a meteorite fall with sound and visual effects on Aug 22, 1961. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Weathered ordinary chondrite. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa25.4 (n=1). Orthopyroxene Fs21.4Wo1.7 (n=2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) Specimens: Main mass with Valery Miller, type speciment at CEREGE. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
