Northwest Africa 15827 (NWA 15827)

Purchased: 2023 Jan

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in January 2023 from a dealer in Laayoune, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS, and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Protogranular aggregate (mean grainsize ~500 µm) of predominantly olivine and orthopyroxene with accessory augite, kamacite (stained by secondary Fe oxides), troilite, chromite, merrillite and trace plagioclase. Minor Fe oxides/hydroxides are present as thin coatings along grain boundaries.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa15.5-17.0, FeO/MnO = 27-33, N = 12), orthopyroxene (Fs14.6-15.2Wo1.8-3.2, FeO/MnO = 18-21, N = 11), augite (Fs6.5Wo43.6, FeO/MnO = 14).

Classification: Lodranite.

Specimens: 14.35 g including one polished mount at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
