Northwest Africa 15834 (NWA 15834)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2013

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

Physical characteristics: Two fragments weighing 76.3 and 19.8 g. Light interior and nearly intact and glassy fresh fusion crust showing flight orientation. Both fragments make up a single rock.

Petrography: Unbrecciated with subophitic texture. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorphs, ilmenite, chromite, troilite and minor kamacite.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene Fs62.9±1.9Wo2.9±1.9, FeO/MnO=33.9±3.2 (n=29). Plagioclase An89.6±5.0Ab10.1±4.7Or0.3±0.3 (n=16), range An78.7-96.3. Ca pyroxene Fs29.3±0.9Wo39.1±6.4.
