Reggane 005 26°38’44.41"N, 01°02’52.53"E Tamanghasset, Algeria Find: 2022 Dec 28 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: The meteorite was found on December 28, 2022 in Algeria and donated to the main mass holder by Mr. J. Z. Sidi, Spain. Physical characteristics: Seven fragments largely covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark grayish interior and consists of sparse, well separated chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 800 µm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix dominated by ferroan Ni-bearing olivine. Minor phases are low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, intermediate plagioclase, pentlandite, and FeS. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; no metal detected. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa31.0±0.2 (Fa30.7-31.3, FeO/MnO=112±9; NiO=0.55±0.07 wt%, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs27.2±0.2Wo0.7±0.1 (Fs26.9-27.6Wo0.5-0.8, n=7); diopside: Fs9.2±0.2Wo45.5±0.2 (Fs8.7-9.5Wo45.2-45.7, n=7); feldspar: An21.3-31.5Ab65.4-71.8Or3.2-7.1, n=7; magnetite contains 4.68±0.20 wt% Cr2O3, n=4 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
