Northwest Africa 15886 (NWA 15886) (Northwest Africa) Find: 2022 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Bought in 2022 from A. Mouadine in Brügg Physical characteristics: Single individual of 143 g with 95% fresh crust without flight marks. Cut face reveals light-gray to light brownish, brecciated, interior with lithic clasts up to 5 mm. Petrography: fine-grained (<100 μm) recrystallized debris of plagioclase and (mainly eucritic) pyroxene with rare sulfide and chromite. Some impact glass areas. Unusual texture in optical microscope. <10 vol% of diogenitic material. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene Fs50.3±1.2Wo11.4±2.1, FeO/MnO=33.6±3.7 (n=14). Plagioclase An87.5±2.6Ab12.3±2.5 (n=16) Classification: Achondrite (eucrite-polymict) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
