Northwest Africa 15794 (NWA 15794) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2023 Classification: EL6a History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Two rocks almost completely covered with fresh fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a fine-grained recystallized texture dominated by 100 to 300 µm sized enstatite and sodic feldspar grains. Opaque phases are Si-bearing kamacite, schreibersite, troilite, alabandite, daubréelite, and Cr-bearing troilite. One poorly defined relict chondrule detected. Geochemistry: enstatite: Fs0.3±0.2Wo1.7±0.1 (Fs0.1-0.7Wo1.6-1.8, n=10); feldspar: An14.9±1.2Ab80.8±0.6Or4.3±0.7 (An12.5-16.7Ab79.6-81.9Or2.9-5.8, n=10); kamacite: Ni=6.3±0.1, Si=0.96±0.03, Co=0.31±0.02, n=7; troilite: Cr=0.96±0.29, Ti=0.65±0.07, n=5; (Mn,Mg,Fe)S: Fe=15.1±0.8, n=5 (all wt%) Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6a). EL based on silica content in kamacite. ELa subgroup based on Cr and Ti contents of troilite, Fe content in alabandite and Ni content in kamacite, Weyrauch et al.
