Find: 2022 Jun

Classification: Ureilite

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Coarse-grained ultramafic rock, consisting of olivine and pyroxene grains with sizes up to several mm. Striking reduction features in olivine, i. e., reverse zoning and occurrence of tiny Ni-free metals at the margins, along cracks, and within the grains. Graphite occurs along silicate grain boundaries. Most metal ist oxidized by terrestrial weathering.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Olivine core composition: Fa23.5±0.3 (Fa22.9-23.8; n=5); Fe/Mn (at.): 51.8. CaO concentration in olivine: 0.4 wt%. Reduction zones in olivine: Fa3.8±1.5 (Fa2.1-4.9; n=3). Pyroxene composition: Fs19.8±0.2Wo8.2±0.2 (Fs19.6-20.0Wo7.9-8.5); n=7. The mean concentration (wt%) of Cr2O3 in olivine and pyroxene is 0.7 and 1.2, respectively.

Classification: Ureilite, based on modal composition, mineral chemistry, occurrence of considerable amounts of graphite, and typical reduction features in olivine.
