Northwest Africa 15933 (NWA 15933) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: March 2018 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia) History: Purchased by Jasper Spencer from a meteorite dealer in Morroco in March 2018. Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark brown fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is comprised of sub-angular to sub-rounded, mm-sized basaltic clasts set within an opaque, melt rock matrix containing sparse vesicles. Accessory phases include SiO2-rich glass, troilite, Ti-bearing chromite, and ilmenite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs59.8±1.6Wo3.1±1.2, range Fs56.3-62.5Wo1.6-5.5, Fe/Mn=29±3, n=29), Pigeonite (Fs56.1±2.0Wo8.4±2.7, range Fs52.8-57.8Wo6.0-12.8, Fe/Mn=31±4, n=5), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs28.0±0.8Wo41.1±1.4, range Fs26.9-29.1Wo39.5-42.8, Fe/Mn=30±5, n=8), Calcic Plagioclase (An91.0±1.7, range An86.1-93.1, n=22). Classification: HED Achondrite (Eucrite-melt breccia). Specimens: 23.2 g at Cascadia, main mass with Emanuela Vanacore. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
