Northwest Africa 15980 (NWA 15980) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Nov Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia) Physical characteristics: One irregular stone Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Breccia with lithic clasts to 1.5 mm set in a recrystallized, microvesicular melt rock matrix. Lithic clasts have a variety of textures: poikilitic, subophitic (grain size 1 mm), and melt rock clasts. Main minerals are exsolved pyroxene and plagioclase. Opaque minerals are Fe-oxides and pyrrhotite. No metal was observed? Geochemistry: Pyroxene Fs56.7±1.6Wo7.7±2.4, FeO/MnO=32.9±1.0 (n=3), Ca-pyroxene exsolution Fs27.2Wo43.2, FeO/MnO=33.8 (n=1).
