Gao, Mali

Find: 2021 Mar

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Monomict achondritic breccia consisting of mm- to cm-sized pyroxenite clasts, embedded in small amounts of fine-grained related debris. Accessories are chromite (max. size 1.5 mm), troilite, and Ni-free metal. No olivine or plagioclase were found.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean pyroxene composition: Fs28.1±0.3Wo1.3±0.2 (Fs27.6-28.6Wo1.0-1.6); mean Fe/Mn (at.): 28.4; n=11.

Classification: Diogenite, based on modal composition and mineral chemistry.
