Writeup from MB 112:

Northwest Africa 16124 (NWA 16124)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2023

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Purchased in 2023 by Dean Bessey from a mineral dealer in Erfoud, Morocco

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Equilibrated ordinary chondrite with clearly visible chondrules and chondrule fragments. Secondary feldspar grains mostly <50 µm. High amounts of Fe-Ni metal, almost completely oxidized by terrestrial weathering.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition: Fa18.5±0.2 (Fa18.3-18.7; n=8); mean low-Ca pyroxene composition: Fs16.2±0.4Wo1.1±0.2 (Fs15.7-17.0 Wox0.9-1.5; n=10).

Classification: H chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 5 due to the equilibrated state of olivine and pyroxene and grain size of secondary plagioclase.
