Northwest Africa 16044 (NWA 16044) Morocco Purchased: 2021 Jan Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4) History: Purchased January 2021 by Ashley Humphries in Quartzsite, AZ from Mohammed Hmani. Physical characteristics: A single stone covered in black fusion crust, saw cut reveals a friable gray interior with dark chondrules. Petrography: (A. S. Bell, CUB and D. Dickens, CCMS) This meteorite has a grey interior with dark dispersed well delineated magnetite-bearing equilibrated chondrules set in a coarse-grained recrystallized matrix dominated by Ni-bearing olivine containing abundant Cr-bearing magnetite. Minor phases include low-Ca pyroxene, pigeonite, augite, and diopside. Some FeS was detected. No metal was detected. Geochemistry: (A. S. Bell, CUB and D. Dickens, CCMS) Olivine Fa33.1±0.4 range Fa32.5-33.8 (n = 9), low-Ca pyroxene Fs26.7±0.6Wo1.0±0.3 range Fs27.8-28.4Wo0.6-1.5, (n = 3), pigeonite Fs21.0Wo15.3 (n=1), augite Fs10.0 Wo43.3 (n=1),diopside: Fs9.0±0.1Wo46.1±2.0 range Fs8.9-10.0Wo45.8-46.6, (n=3), plagioclase An76.1±17.7Or0.7±1.0 range An37.0-88.5Or0.2-1.5, (n = 8), magnetite Cr2O3 4.5±0.2 range 4.4-4.7 wt.% (n = 6).
