Northwest Africa 16133 (NWA 16133) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2023 Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite) History: Purchased in 2023 by Shaun and David Fletcher from a meteorite dealer in 2023. Physical characteristics: Many heavily weathered stones covered in desert patina. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is a polymict breccia comprised of sub-angular to sub-rounded mm-sized lithic and mineral clasts (largest clast ~8 mm; eucritic material [basaltic+cumulate] comprise ~ 55 vol. % of clasts, diogenitic material comprise ~ 45 vol. % of clasts) set within a fine-grained fragmental matrix. Accessory phases identified include SiO2-rich glass, ilmenite, and chromite. Geochemistry: Eucrite Clasts: [Olivine (Fa53.2±19.1, range Fa39.6-66.7, Fe/Mn = 49±5, n=2), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs50.7±11.5Wo3.3±1.3, range Fs35.0-68.5Wo1.3-5.9, Fe/Mn = 30±2, n=29), Pigeonite (Fs47.1±5.5Wo10.8±4.5, range Fs39.1-57.7Wo6.4-21.7, Fe/Mn=29±1, n=13), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs30.1±6.7Wo39.0±4.7, range Fs17.4-43.9Wo26.4-43.7, Fe/Mn=30±3, n=17), Calcic Plagioclase (An90.3±2.4, range An84.0-92.8, n=11)]; Diogenite Clasts: [Olivine (Fa29.0, Fe/Mn =48, n=1), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs25.1±5.8Wo2.2±0.9, range Fs18.3-34.0Wo1.2-4.1, Fe/Mn = 28±2, n=13)].
