Northwest Africa 15858 (NWA 15858) Erg Chech, Mauritania Find: 21 Feb 2021 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4) History: A single piece was found by meteorite researchers from Mauritania in the Erg Chech region of the Mauritanian Sahara. It was subsequently purchased by Ali Muftah and Younes Chaoui in April 2021 who sold it to Sean Mahoney. Physical characteristics: One single piece with remnant fusion crust covering one side making up approximately 70% of the surface, the remaing part being desert varnished. The main mass is in the collection of Sean Mahoney. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is an ordinary chondrite containing accessory Fe-Ni metal, troilite, and chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa32.0±1.5, range Fa29.3-36.1, n=23), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs26.7±2.6Wo2.2±0.8, range Fs21.6-33.7Wo1.4-3.6, n=20). Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (LL4) Specimens: 21.4 g at Cascadia, main mass with Sean Mahoney. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
