Northwest Africa 16280 (NWA 16280)

Purchased: 2022 Apr

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Jason Whitcomb purchased multiple small stones from a Moroccan dealer in April 2022

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca. CEREGE) Chondrite with packed well-delineated chondrules with average apparent diameter 830±405 µm (n=17). Chondrule mesostasis is devitrified. Olivine are chemically zoned. Opaque minerals are metal and troilite. Dusty olivines are present.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa18.8±11.6, range Fa0.7-35.7, Fa PMD 51% (n=6). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.09±0.05 wt% (n=5). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs8.9±10.5Wo1.4±1.7, range Fs1.0-33.5 (n=9).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3). L group based on petrography and magnetic susceptibility.
