Writeup from MB 112:

Northwest Africa 16393 (NWA 16393)

Morocco

Purchased: 2023 Jun

Classification: Ureilite

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Blocky of dominant olivine and pyroxene aggregate with grain size 2 mm. Olivine shows reduced rims. FeNi metal is present along grain rims, and as veinlets and µm-sized aligned grains in olivine. Troilite is found associated with metal as ~5 µm grains enclosed in olivine. Abundant carbon material is present, very likely diamond in view of the difficulty in sawing and polishing the meteorite.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa19.2±0.2, Cr2O3 0.74±0.08 wt%, CaO 0.38±0.02 wt% (n=5). Olivine rims down to Fa4.0. Pyroxene Fs16.0Wo10.0, Al2O3 0.61 wt%, Cr2O3 1.22 wt% (n=2).

Classification: Ureilite

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
