Northwest Africa 15823 (NWA 15823)

Classification: Iron meteorite (IIE, anomalous)

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Iron meteorite without Widmanstätten patterns (hexaedrite). Multiple well-developed Neumann band sets are present. Other shock features include veins of recrystallized metal. with grain size 10 µm. bounded by deformed Neumann bands showing a sigmoidal pattern at the contact with the vein. Rhabdites with 2 µm size are present. Angular enstatite to several mm is present.

Geochemistry: Composition: Ni 5.90 wt% (XRF analyses). Trace elements (ICP-MS. V. Debaille. ULB): Co 4.57 mg/g. Ga 30.3 µg/g. As 17.8 µg/g. Ir 4.28 µg/g. Au 1.02 µg/g. Cu 149.1 µg/g. Cr 12.5 µg/g. Ge was not measured. Enstatite Fs0.31±0.30Wo0.86±0.20 (n=7).

Classification: Iron meteorite (IIE anomalous). The anomalous properties are that Ni is low and Ga is high compared to other members of this group.
