Northwest Africa 16394 (NWA 16394)

Morocco

Purchased: 2023 Jun

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite)

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Recrystallized rock composed mostly of olivine and Ca-pyroxene with triple junctions, with lobate plagioclase 200 µm in size. No relict chondrule was observed. Opaque minerals are abundant kamacite and schreibersite, mostly weathered.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa1.2±0.1, FeO/MnO 3.4±0.4 (n=4). Orthopyroxene Fs2.2±0.7Wo1.0±0.1, FeO/MnO 4.4±0.9 (n=3). Ca-pyroxene Fs1.0±0.1Wo42.2±0.1, FeO/MnO 2.2±0.5 (n=3). Plagiocalse An37.2Ab62.5Or0.3 (n=2). Kamacite has less than 0.1 wt% Si.
