Find: 2023 Dec

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict)

History: The meteorite was found in Libya and subsequently purchased from a dealer in Laayoune, Morocco

Physical characteristics: Two individuals weighing 812 and 313 g. The larger one is mostly covered with black fusion crust, and the smaller one almost completely covered with black fusion crust.

Petrography: Polymict breccia composed of up to 1.5 cm-sized basaltic and dark impact melt clasts plus up to 1 mm sized mineral fragments in fine-grained clastic matrix. Predominant mineral phases are zoned low-Ca pyroxene, exsolved pyroxene, and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, chromite, ilmenite, zircon, troilite, and Ni-free metal.

Geochemistry: zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs39.0±11.1Wo4.6±0.6 (Fs28.8-53.1Wo3.7-5.5, FeO/MnO=23-31, n=7); low-Ca pyroxene host to augite exsolution lamellae: Fs54.4±0.2Wo3.1±0.2 (Fs54.1-54.6Wo2.8-3-3, FeO/MnO=31-34, n=7); augite exsolution lamellae: Fs26.3±0.5Wo41.7±0.2 (Fs25.4-26.9Wo41.4-42.0, FeO/MnO=27-30, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An89.4±3.7 (An82.8-94.1, n=7)
