Writeup from MB 113:

Northwest Africa 16454 (NWA 16454)

Morocco

Purchased: 2023 Jun

Classification: Ureilite (polymict)

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Breccia with mineral clasts up to mm. The few lithic clasts show an equilibrated texture with poikilitic texture. Main minerals are olivine (with reduced rims), pigeonite, augite, plagioclase. Aggregates of carbon material (likely diamond in view of the extreme difficulty to cut and polish the meteorite) reach 1 mm in size and display geometric shapes. C1-like clasts to 500 µm are present.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa22.4±1.0, Cr2O3 0.85±0.08 wt%, CaO 0.40±0.09 wt% (n=5). Olivine rims down to Fa9.4. Pigeonite Fs13.1Wo8.2 (n=2), augite Fs6.7±0.4Wo37.5±1.7 (n=3). Pyroxenes have FeO/MnO 16.0±6.9, Cr2O3 1.20±0.15 wt%; Al2O3 1.50±0.75 (n=5). Plagioclase An40.4Ab59.2Or0.4 (n=2).

Classification: Ureilite, polymict.

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE, main mass with Kuntz.
