Chahar Cheshmeh-ye Nazem 33°32.604’N, 49°23.463’E Lorestan, Iran Find: 2018 Sept Classification: Iron meteorite (IIIAB) History: Found in the autumn of 2018 on a hilltop near the town of Chahār Cheshmeh-ye Nāz̧em, Lorestan Province, Iran, by Mr. Morteza Khamoushi. Subsequently acquired by Hamid Tavakoli. Physical characteristics: Consists of a single elongate mass with an irregular, tan to red-brown surface. Regmaglypts are prominent on one end. Petrography: (C. Herd, D. Poon-Matsune, UAb) Optical investigation of a 1 × 3 cm polished and etched surface reveals a well-developed Widmanstaetten pattern consistent with medium octahedrite (1.2±0.4 mm; n=23). Alteration is confined to the exterior surface. Geochemistry: ICP-MS data, using sample of North Chile (Filomena) as standard (C. Herd and S. DuFrane, UAb): Ni = 81.6, Co = 5.02 (both mg/g); Ir = 0.82, Ga = 22.5, Ge = 38.1, As = 7.2, Sb = 0.08, Sn =0.79, Ru = 5.8, Pd = 1.4, W = 0.81, Pt = 8.1, Cu = 157, Au = 1.08 (all μg/g). Classification: (C. Herd, UAb): IIIAB iron, medium octahedrite. Specimens: Type specimen of 29.8 g at UAb. Main mass with Hamid Tavakoli. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
