Writeup from MB 113:
Northwest Africa 16807 (NWA 16807) Morocco Purchased: 2022 Classification: Iron meteorite (IAB-MG) History: Purchased from Craig Zlimen after he acquired it online from a Moroccan dealer in 2022. Physical characteristics: A single, irregular mass with large regmaglypts and a dark brown to reddish surface. Petrography: (C. Herd, D. Poon Matsune, UAb) Optical investigation of a 6 × 10 cm polished and etched surface reveals a well-developed Widmanstatten pattern consistent with coarse octahedrite (2.6±0.8 mm; n=14). Neumann lines are present on kamacite crystals. No inclusions were noted. Alteration extends along fractures into the interior. Geochemistry: ICP-MS data, using sample of North Chile (Filomena) as standard (C. Herd and S. DuFrane, UAb): Ni = 69.0, Co = 4.48 (both mg/g); Ir = 4.3, Ga = 99.4, Ge = 384, As = 12.1, Sb = 0.21, Sn = 5.0, Ru = 8.6, Pd = 3.4, Re = 0.40, W = 1.3, Pt = 9.1, Cu = 160, Au = 1.57 (all μg/g). Classification: (C. Herd, UAb): IAB Main Group iron, coarse octahedrite. Specimens: Type specimen of 237.2 g at UAb. Main mass with Brian Caress. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
