Northwest Africa 17022 (NWA 17022)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2024

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5)

History: Sample was purchased by Mark Lyon in 2024 from a meteorite dealer in northwest Africa, then subsequently purchased by Chris Sanders.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with weathered fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Equilibrated ordinary chondrite containing secondary recrystallized feldspar (Av. ~40 µm) and accessory Fe-Ni metal, troilite, and chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.8±0.3, range Fa25.3-26.3, n=28), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs22.0±0.4Wo1.4±0.3, range Fs21.5-22.9Wo1.1-2.2, n=28).

Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (L5).

Specimens: 74.7 g and a polished thin section at Cascadia, main mass with Chris Sanders.
