Writeup from MB 113:

Pakepake 013        38.73015359°N, 83.97826206°E

Xinjiang, China

Find: 2024

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Discovered by a meteorite hunter in the Xinjiang desert on March 7, 2024, and acquired by Ziyao Wang on March 8, 2024.

Physical characteristics: Single individual pebble. Saw-cut surface reveals a breccia with dark clasts set in a darker groundmass. A few smaller light-colored clasts are also present.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows a fragmental breccia of predominately pyroxene and plagioclase. The pyroxene shows a continuum of compositions between pigeonite and augite. Pyroxene grains possess exsolution lamellae. Minor phases include silica and ilmenite.

Geochemistry: (M. Spilde and C. Agee, UNM) Clinopyroxene Fs41.3±11.7Wo26.8±14.1, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=7; plagioclase An91.2±1.5Ab8.2±1.8, n=3.

Classification: Monomict eucrite

Specimens: 4.1 g on deposit at UNM, WangZ holds the main mass.
