Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13644 (NWA 13644) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L, melt rock) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The rock shows a fine-grained (100-200 µm typical grain size), equigranular texture of euhedral to subhedral olivine and orthopyroxene grains, the latter partly poikilitically enclosing olivine. Some low-Ca pyroxenes are overgrown by thin augite margins. The interstitial space between the crystals is filled with finely crystallized Si,Al-rich minerals. Opaque phases include chromite, sulfides, and FeNi metal, partly present as blebs in mesostasis. Olivine and low-Ca-pyroxene show minor compositional zoning. Neither feldspar nor relict chondrules have been found in the two sections studied. The meteorite contains shock melt veins and pockets. Geochemistry: Interstitial finely-crystallized material (all wt%; N=4): SiO2: 68.5, TiO2: 0.23, Na2O: 4.40, K2O: 0.67; Cr2O3: 0.03, MgO: 0.30, MnO: 0.02; CaO= 2.24; FeO: 0.92, Al2O3: 21.2, Total: 98.5 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
