Northeast Africa 016 (NEA 016) Libya Purchased: 2019 Nov Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in November 2019 from a Libyan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Sparse chondrules occur within a recrystallized matrix containing sodic plagioclase, alkali feldspar, taenite (with variable Ni/Fe ratios), stained troilite (more abundant than metal, with uneven lenses of Ni-bearing iron sulfide), low-Ti chromite, merrillite and chlorapatite. No kamacite was observed. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.0±0.5, range Fa24.1-25.4, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.7±0.1Wo1.8±0.1, range Fs20.6-20.8Wo1.7-2.0, N = 5), subcalcic augite (Fs9.1Wo36.3), augite (Fs8.2±0.5Wo44.6±0.5, range Fs7.9-8.8Wo44.9-44.0, N = 3), plagioclase (Ab85.6An10.3Or4.1), alkali feldspar (Ab58.0An1.3Or40.7). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5). Specimens: 91.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
