Northwest Africa 14735 (NWA 14735)

Purchased: 2021 Aug

Classification: Iron meteorite (ungrouped)

History: The meteorite was found in the area of Boudnib in the Errachida province of Morocco.

Petrography: (Jérôme Gattacceca, Clara Maurel, CEREGE) Iron meteorite with coarse octahedrite structure. Kamacite bandwith is 1.4 mm. Multiple sets of Neumann bands are visible. Schreibersite is found as elongated fractured grains (typical size 300 µm by 2 mm).

Geochemistry: XRF measurement of a polished cut surface gives Ni 8.15 wt%, Co 0.497 wt%. (V. Debaille, ULB) Composition of the metal (ICP-MS) is Co=0.50±0.00 (both in wt% ± 1 sigma), Cr below detection limit, Cu=164.9±1.5, Ga=37.5±1.2, As=7.86±0.21, Mo=4.83±0.03, Pd=3.67±0.04, Ir=0.01±0.00, Au=0.76±0.04 (all in ppm ± 1 sigma). Ge was not measured.
