Calama 048 22°25.371’S, 068°40.746’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 2017 Feb 23 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) Physical characteristics: Sawn surface shows a dark interior with many small chondrules. Stone shows little weathering. Petrography: Thin section shows abundant chondrules (predominantly of type I) and small CAIs set in a fine-grained matrix. The average chondrule apparent size is 160±50 µm (N=60), with a few chondrules up to 1 mm. Geochemistry: Olivine in the range Fa0.3-52.5 (mean Fa15.9±10.1, N=32). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.4±0.2 wt.% (N=15). Low-Ca pyroxene in the range Fs1.0-13.6 (mean Fs1.5±0.8Wo1.4±0.7, N=16). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
