Northwest Africa 2815
Morocco(?) Found 2003 Mesosiderite A single stone of 147 g was found by Moroccan nomads and sold in Morocco. Mineralogy and classification (J. Schlüter, Hamburg): Orthopyroxene clasts up to several mm in size in a fine grained matrix of feldspar and pyroxene. Subequal amounts of metal and silicates. Anorthite (n=5, An91.81-96.30Ab3.58-8.19Or 0-0.26); orthopyroxene (n=7, Fs18.21-35.10Wo0.99-3.94, FeO/MnO= 29.16-37.05); low-Ca clinopyroxene (n=3, Fs35.92-44.76Wo1.81-5.06); one olivine grain with mg#: 84.82; one high-Ca clinopyroxene Fs22.7En39.2Wo38.1. Orthopyroxene- plagioclase ratio and chemistry indicate class A; texture type 2. Weathering grade: W2, shock stage: S2. Specimens: type specimen 23.2 g, Mineralogical Museum Hamburg, the main mass is with Horst Burkard, Bonn. | ||||||||||||
