Northwest Africa 4923 (NWA 4923) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Two small brownish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a more coarse-grained protogranular texture of typically 100 to 600 µm sized low-Ca pyroxene, forsteritic olivine, Ca-pyroxene, and less abundant sodic feldspar grains. Minor phases include chlorapatite, troilite, and kamacite. The meteorite is strongly weathered and contains abundant Fe-oxides and -hydroxides. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa4.1±0.1 (Fa4.0-4.4, FeO/MnO=23±4, n=5); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs5.9±0.5Wo1.6±0.1 (Fs5.4-6.5Wo1.4-1.7, FeO/MnO=23±5, n=5); Ca-pyroxene: Fs2.5±0.2Wo45.3±0.4 (Fs2.2-2.9Wo44.8-45.9, FeO/MnO=14±2, n=5); feldspar: An7.7±4.7Ab89.3±4.0Or3.0±0.8, n=12 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
