Northwest Africa 14411 (NWA 14411) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Two dark brownish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a fine-grained recrystallized texture with frequent 120 degree triple junctions. It is predominantly composed of typically 50 to 300 µm sized low-Ca pyroxene, forsteritic olivine, Ca-pyroxene, and less abundant sodic feldspar grains. Kamacite, taenite, and troilite are mostly finely dispersed throughout the meteorite. Some metal veins are present. The meteorite contains minor apatite. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa3.9±0.1 (Fa3.7-3.9 FeO/MnO=17±1, n=5); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs4.8±0.2Wo1.9±0.1 (Fs4.6-5.0Wo1.8-2.0, FeO/MnO=13±2, n=5); Ca-pyroxene: Fs1.6±0.2Wo45.3±0.3 (Fs1.4-1.9Wo44.9-45.5, FeO/MnO=12±3, n=5); feldspar: An23.0±1.0Ab74.5±0.9Or2.5±0.2, n=5 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
