Northwest Africa 14566 (NWA 14566)

Purchased: 2021 Oct

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite)

History: Purchased by Juan Poblador in October 2021 from a dealer in Errachidia, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture (mean grainsize ~100 ┬Ám). Composed of forsterite, enstatite, diopside, and altered kamacite with accessory sodic plagioclase, troilite and minor secondary barite.

Geochemistry: Forsterite (Fa0.8-1.1, FeO/MnO = 2-3, N = 4), enstatite (Fs1.5Wo0.4, FeO/MnO = 7; Fs4.6-4.8Wo1.8-2.2, FeO/MnO = 5; N = 5), diopside (Fs1.2-2.3Wo45.9-44.1, FeO/MnO = 3, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab85.2An10.8Or4.0).

Classification: Winonaite.

Specimens: 11.5 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Poblador.
