Writeup from MB 100:
Northwest Africa 7063 (NWA 7063) Morocco Found: 2008 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) History: A partially crusted 188 g stone was found in 2008 and purchased in Erfoud, Morocco, in 2009. Thomas Webb acquired the samples in June 2011 from a meteorite prospector. Physical characteristics: Dark brown matte fusion crust covers 80% of stone. The matrix is crosscut by a thin (~100 μm), light-colored (visible in hand specimen), discontinuous region with a microporphyritic texture composed of few olivine and orthopyroxene phenocrysts contained within a very fine-grained (avg. grain-size ~30 μm) recrystallized matrix of olivine, orthopyroxene and plagioclase. Petrography: Sample displays recrystallized chondritic texture with indistinct chondrules and fragments: GO, BO, RP, POP (avg. diam. ~1.50 mm). Matrix contains 500 μm anhedral grains of apatite. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa 22.89±0.82, PMD = 0.64%, n=42. Orthopyroxene Fs 20.07±1.83, PMD = 7.39%, Wo 1.48±7.39, n=24. Classification: Equilibrated ordinary chondrite (L6) S3 W 1 Specimens: 21.2 g and one thin section on deposit at App. Thomas Webb holds main mass | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
