Northwest Africa 14055 (NWA 14055) Morocco Purchased: 2020 Jan Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased from a Moroccan dealer at the Tucson show Physical characteristics: (R. Szczuczko) A small blocky stone with black to brown matt fusion crust with regmaglypts on one surface while the others surfaces are relatively fresh, light to tan brown in color with numerous chondrules. The interior is medium brown with minor fractures, very abundant chondrules and metal flecks. Petrography: (C. Herd, UAb) Optical examination of a thin section shows well-defined chondrules, but no preserved chondrule glass. Low-Ca pyroxene is monoclinic. Olivine has sharp optical extinction with <2° angular variation. Geochemistry: (C. Herd and A. Locock, UAb) Data obtained by EMP examination of carbon-coated probe mount: Olivine Fa24.6±1.0 (n=66); Low-Ca Pyroxene Fs20.3±2.8Wo1.1±0.8 (n=38). Classification: Ordinary chondrite, L4 Specimens: Type specimen consisting of 3 fragments totaling 20.2 g is at UAb. Main mass, polished mount and thin section with the owner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
