Northwest Africa 14337 (NWA 14337) Morocco Find: 2015 Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite) History: Discovered by Ait Kabboura Imad close to Taguerount in 2015, approximately 31°15’N, 4°30’W Physical characteristics: nearly complete individual of 37.2 g with black, partly lustrous fusion crust Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) Polymict breccia of basaltic eucrite, diogenite (orthopyroxene) and mineral fragments set into a more fine-grained clastic and related matrix (eucritic/diogenitic~0.5). Minor minerals include silica, ilmenite, chromite, troilite, kamacite, and taenite. Metal grains show weak rust halos. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) poor Ca pyroxene Fs30.7(22-64)Wo2.5(1-4), FeO/MnO=31 (n=20); pigeonite En38-61Fs56-33Wo5-11 (n=3); augite En31-33Fs27-31Wo37-42 (n=3); feldspar An81-96Or<1.5 (n=5); chromite CRAL=81-86, FFM=82-9792 (n=2); silica, ilmenite (MgO=1 wt%;n=1), troilite, kamazite (Ni=2.5-3.4,Co=0.2-0.7 wt%, n=4). Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) logc=3.68 Classification: HED achondrite (Howardite) Specimens: 7.47 g on deposit at Kiel, Ait Kabboura Imad (Liege/B) holds the main mass, and 7 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
