Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 14497 (NWA 14497)

Purchased: 2012

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Sample was purchased in 2012 from Adam Aaronson at the Tucson mineral show who acquired it from Morocco. Sample is catalogued at ROM as M58503.

Physical characteristics: Single individual with complete slightly rusty fusion crust, showing oreintation streaming.

Petrography: Cut surfaces and petrographic thin section show oxidation of metal staining the silicates. Chrondrules and chondrule fragments are poorly defined and matrix is recrystallized. Olivine and pyroxene show undulatory extinction. FeNi metal occurs in blebs up to 300 micrometers in dimension, typically embayed by silicates.

Geochemistry: EPMA: Olivine Fa19.12±0.45 (n=30); Ca-poor pyroxene Fs16.71±0.28 (n=26); Ca-rich pyroxene Wo46.45±0.12 (n=4).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite: H5 (S3) W2

Specimens: Type specimen location: ROM. Main mass: D. Gregory.
