Northwest Africa 13904 (NWA 13904)

Algeria

Purchased: 2018

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4)

History: Purchased from Mostafa Hnini in 2018.

Physical characteristics: Single stone, no fusion crust. Saw-cut surface reveals numerous, tightly packed, distinct chondrules set in a dark brown matrix.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows porphyritic and barred chondrules, many with mesostasis or glass. Most secondary plagioclase grains are less than 2 μm in size.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee, UNM) Olivine Fa24.2±0.9, Fe/Mn=49±2, n=8; low-Ca pyroxene Fs21.2±1.5Wo1.0±0.4, Fe/Mn=31±4, n=6.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite L4

Specimens: 27.4 g on deposit at UNM, Matthew Stream holds the main mass.
