Northwest Africa 8410 (NWA 8410) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2013 Jun Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite) History: Purchased in June 2013 by Marc Jost from a Moroccan dealer at the Ensisheim Show. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Coarse grained (0.8-4 mm), protogranular aggregate of olivine with reduced rims, subcalcic augite and rare low-Ca pyroxene with accessory altered Ni-poor metal and rare Cr-bearing troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa12.7-12.9; FeO/MnO = 21-23, N = 2; rims Fa6.5-7.2), subcalcic augite (Fs6.1-6.2Wo36.4-36.5; FeO/MnO = 10, N = 2), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs10.0Wo4.9; FeO/MnO = 12). Classification: Lodranite. This specimen is unusual because of the presence of reduced rims on olivine grains. Specimens: 21.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB.
