Northwest Africa 12480 (NWA 12480) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Nov Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite) Physical characteristics: Cut surface reveals a greenish and metal-rich interior. Petrography: Strongly recrystallized texture with orthopyroxene (typical size 400 µm), Ca-pyroxene, plagioclase (typical size 200 µm) displaying triple junctions. Opaques are FeNi metal and troilite. No chondrule remnant was observed. Modal abundances (by point counting): plagioclase (14 vol%), pyroxene (66 vol%), FeNi metal (12 vol%), troilite (6 vol%). Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene Fs11.2±0.2Wo2.1±0.3, FeO/MnO=13.5±2.1 (n=4), augite Fs4.7Wo45.0 (n=2), plagioclase An16.6Ab79.0Or4.4 (n=2). Classification: Primitive achondrite (acapulcoite).
