Northwest Africa 14584 (NWA 14584) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite) History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen in June 2021 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture, mean grainsize 280 µm. Composed predominantly of olivine and orthopyroxene with subordinate diopside, sodic plagioclase, kamacite, troilite and low-Ti chromite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa12.5-12.9, FeO/MnO = 23-24, N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs12.6-12.7Wo1.8-2.9, FeO/MnO = 16, N = 3), diopside (Fs5.0-5.5Wo44.5-43.5, FeO/MnO = 10-11, N = 3), plagioclase (Ab76.7An20.8Or2.6). Classification: Acapulcoite. Specimens: 8.66 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
