Northwest Africa 14929 (NWA 14929)

Purchased: 2019 Dec

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in December 2019 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture (mean grainsize ~350 ┬Ám). Composed of olivine, low-Ca pyroxene and diopside with accessory sodic plagioclase, troilite, altered kamacite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa11.0-11.5, FeO/MnO = 19-21, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs10-7-11.0Wo1.9-2.5, FeO/MnO = 12, N = 4), diopside (Fs4.6-5.1Wo43.4-45.0, FeO/MnO = 8-9, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab72.5An25.2Or2.3).

Classification: Acapulcoite.

Specimens: 6.66 g including a polished endcut at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
