Northwest Africa 14145 (NWA 14145) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Oct Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4) History: Purchased by Luc Labenne in October 2020 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Separated well-formed, equilibrated magnetite-bearing chondrules are set in a fine grained matrix containing Cr-magnetite and intermediate plagioclase. Magnetite contains ilmenite exsolution lamellae and inclusions of pentlandite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa33.5±0.1, range Fa33.4-33.6, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs28.3±1.4Wo0.6±0.1, range Fs26.8-29.5Wo0.5-0.7, N = 3), augite (Fs12.5±7.1Wo48.8±0.8, range Fs7.4-17.5Wo48.2-49.3, N = 2), plagioclase (An29.6-39.2Or6.4-4.0, N = 2), magnetite (Cr2O3 4.8-5.1 wt.%, N = 3). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4). Specimens: 20.6 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Labenne. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
